Invigorate

AT THE ESTATE

Make the most of Marlborough''s warm sunny climate lazing by the  pool with a world class glass of sauvignon blanc. If you''re feeling more energetic then have a game of lawn bowls or practise your swing on our nine hole chip and putt golf course that wends a challenging path through the surrounding paddocks.  Your hosts can also arrange custom made tours/adventures with other operators that incorporate your particular interests.

OFF THE ESTATE

Wine Tours

New Zealands largest wine producing province, Marlborough single handedly put NZ on the world''s wine map. Aside from its internationally acclaimed Sauvignon Blanc, the region also produces first class Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. A wine tour can be arranged with one of the many tour operators in Blenheim.

Golf

Less than five minutes drive from Ugbrooke is the Awatere Golf Club, an excellent nine -hole country course. Just 25 minutes drive away over the Redwood Pass to Blenheim are the 18 hole Marlborough and Rarangi courses and the nine- hole Blenheim and Wairau Valley courses.

Fishing

Ugbrooke can organise river or charter boat fishing depending on interest or simply fish off one of the local beaches.

Walking and Cycling (see cycling tours below)

The stunning Marlborough countryside lends itself to a variety of hikes and good cycling between mid November and mid May. Your hosts can advise on best walking trails around the Blenheim area or for serious trampers looking for 2 or 4 day walks, then The Awatere Tussock Track offers it all. www.tussocktrack.co.nz

Horse Riding

What better way to see Marlborough''s high country than on horse-back? Just 20 minutes drive from Ugbrooke is High Country Horse Treks who offer treks from 1 to 4 and a half hour duration. Your hosts are happy to drop off and pick up guests at High Country Horse Treks for a small charge. www.high-horse.co.nz

Skiing

The Rainbow Ski area open from June to October is just 110 minutes easy drive. Located in the St Arnaud range amidst the northern most peaks of the Southern Alps, all abilities are catered for and lifts comprise a double chair, T-Bar and two learner tows with ski and snowboard hire on the mountain. Mt Lyford ski field is just 2 hours scenic drive south of Ugbrooke.

Whale Watching

One hour''s drive south of Ugbrooke is Kaikoura. Keep an eye out for the  roadside caravans selling delicious freshly caught crayfish,. This coastal town is home to Whalewatch New Zealand - a 365 day operation that boasts a 90 percent success rate in sighting young Sperm Whales and occasionally Southern Right and Orca Whales. Kaikoura is also home to many seals and Dolphinwatch Kaikoura which offers summer tours swimming with pods of up to 100 dolphins.

Explore and experience the beautiful Awatere Valley one of New Zealand''s most scenic and geologically fascinating areas. The terrain changes from undulating vineyards to spectacular glacial terraces to the rugged beauty of N.Z''s largest station - the historic Molesworth.

We have numerous tours from which to choose and can tailor make tours to suit your itinerary or particular interests.  Choose from one day to four day experiences.

 

CYCLE TOURS

Cycle tours range from two to four days and  include two nights accommodation at Ugbrooke  

GUIDED 2 DAY CYCLE & RAFTING TOUR; This combines with a Clarence River afternoon rafting trip (category 2-3)

Day One: Depart Ugbrooke at 9.30 am - scenic  drive up the Awatere Valley to Upcott Saddle, unload  mountain bikes, cycle to Molesworth Station (48 kms).  Note fitness rating a minimum of 3 out of 5. Picnic lunch  at Molesworth Station. Continue scenic drive to top of Ward''s Pass and then cycle from Ward''s Pass through Isolation Flat ( approx 18 kms.) Load mountain bikes and continue scenic drive to Hanmer Springs. Enjoy a relaxing dip at the famous thermal pools. Dinner and breakfast at local lodge.   

Day Two: 
 Depart Hanmer Springs 9.30 am. Scenic drive along Alpine Triangle scenic route to Kaikoura. Visit to Fur Seal colony. Lunch on beach or riverside prior to rafting trip.  Raft the Clarence River with experienced guides ( duration approx 3 hours.)  Return to Ugbrooke for dinner and unwind.

COST PER PERSON ;  nz$ 1420       Includes two night accommodation, continental breakfast and dinners at UGBOOKE , passes in to Thermal Springs Resort and dinner and accommodation at Hanmer Springs.Clarence River Rafting trip. Picnic lunches   Does not include bike hire or incidental expenses.  


GUIDED 3 DAY MOLESWORTH & HIGH COUNTRY CYCLE TOUR;
for serious cyclists!  Includes two nights accommodation at UGBROOKE 

Day One:    Same schedule as Day One of the Two Day Tour but cyclists can set their own pace and distances which is discussed during previous night at Ugbrooke. Cyclists can also have the option of the downhill section from Jack''s Pass into Hanmer Springs. ( approx distance cycling 75-90 kms)

Day Two:   After breakfast, a scenic drive to top of Jack''s Pass, unload bikes and ride into western side of Molesworth Station. Here you will follow the Clarence River Flats and stop off at Lake Tennyson for a break/lunch. Drive to top of Island Saddle ( N.Z''s highest point on a public road,) cycle past towering shingle slides, mountain lakes and waterfalls as we follow the river. Afternoon tea break at Rainbow Station/Molesworth boundary. Cycle to historic Top House and enjoy country cooking and a good night''s sleep in glorious surroundings. ( approx distance cycling ..45 klms upto 100 klms..................)

Day Three: Depart Top House, drive to lake side village of St Arnaud. Visit D.O.C ( Dept of Conservation) and continue to Lake Rotoiti waterfront. Drive to top of Top House hill, unload bikes, ride towards Blenheim, picnic lunch beside the Wairau River. Continue to Blenheim and meet bus before Renwick, load bikes and head to closest winery for celebration drinks! Return to Ugbrooke for dinner and evening drinks. (approx distance cycling...80 klms...................)

COST PER PERSON; nz $1670  Includes 2 nights accommodation, continental breakfast and dinners at Ugbrooke in a Heritage room, picnic lunches and accommodation and dinner at Top House and Hanmer Springs. Does not include bike hire or incidental expenses. Thermal Springs pass included

 

GUIDED 4 DAY SCENIC CYCLE TOUR;   This tour follows the same route as the three day tour but with a greater emphasis on enjoyment and learning about the history of the High Country and Molesworth Station,  You get to meet Some of the local farmers and visit their stations and stay in an original shearers quarters at Upcott Station.
