AT THE ESTATE

Make the most of Marlborough''s warm sunny climate lazing by the  pool with a world class glass of sauvignon blanc. If you''re feeling more energetic then have a game of lawn bowls or practise your swing on our nine hole chip and putt golf course that wends a challenging path through the surrounding paddocks.  Your hosts can also arrange custom made tours/adventures with other operators that incorporate your particular interests.

OFF THE ESTATE

Wine Tours

New Zealands largest wine producing province, Marlborough single handedly put NZ on the world''s wine map. Aside from its internationally acclaimed Sauvignon Blanc, the region also produces first class Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. A wine tour can be arranged with one of the many tour operators in Blenheim.

Golf

Less than five minutes drive from Ugbrooke is the Awatere Golf Club, an excellent nine -hole country course. Just 25 minutes drive away over the Redwood Pass to Blenheim are the 18 hole Marlborough and Rarangi courses and the nine- hole Blenheim and Wairau Valley courses.

Fishing

Locally, the mouth of the Awatere River (5 minutes drive from Ugbrooke) and Marfells beach (15 minutes drive) offer good beach fishing but if trout or salmon fishing is your passion then experience the exhilaration of landing trout in lakes Rotoiti and Rotoroa. These lakes offer great trout fishing between October and May and the Wairau River has over 140 kms of fishable water with 47 access points, great for the world''s most avid anglers to absolute beginners. For the best in salmon fishing, find a spot on the Wairau River mouth between December and March.

The nearby Marlborough Sounds offer year round sea-fishing with abundant blue cod, snapper, gurnard and terakihi.

Walking/Mountain Bike Riding

The stunning Marlborough countryside lends itself to a variety of hikes between mid November and mid May. Your hosts can advise on best walking trails around the Blenheim area or for serious trampers looking for 2 or 4 day walks, then The Awatere Tussock Track offers it all. www.tussocktrack.co.nz

Horse Riding

What better way to see Marlborough''s high country than on horse-back? Just 20 minutes drive from Ugbrooke is High Country Horse Treks who offer treks from 1 to 4 and a half hour duration. Skiing

The Rainbow Ski area open from June to October is just 110 minutes easy drive. Located in the St Arnaud range amidst the northern most peaks of the Southern Alps, all abilities are catered for and lifts comprise a double chair, T-Bar and two learner tows with ski and snowboard hire on the mountain. Mt Lyford ski field is just 2 hours scenic drive south of Ugbrooke.

Whale Watching

One hour''s drive south of Ugbrooke is Kaikoura. Keep an eye out for the  roadside caravans selling delicious freshly caught crayfish,. This coastal town is home to Whalewatch New Zealand - a 365 day operation that boasts a 90 percent success rate in sighting young Sperm Whales and occasionally Southern Right and Orca Whales. Kaikoura is also home to many seals and Dolphinwatch Kaikoura which offers summer tours swimming with pods of up to 100 dolphins.
